Project
With the Seaforth community commemorations for Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and War Animals Day now outgrowing our old Anzac Park area, we've gained approval to create a new, all-abilities, fit for purpose cenotaph recognising all conflicts Australia has been involved in since federation.
The initial concept centres around the beautiful vistas of the Cumberland Island group, framed by 2x 7m flagpoles to represent both countries united to form our ANZAC legacy.
Next is the eastern facing waves, capturing the morning sun as it breaks over Cape Hillsborough and is representative of the oceans our Defence personnel need to cross when deployed.
The brass statues form the bookends of our most widely deployed, and formidable ground-based military, a WW1 soldier, resting on reverse arms guarding the past and a contemporary Afghanistan veteran looking to the future.
The miniature ANZAC Cove, Gallipoli wall bordering the beachside ties us to our roots in distant lands, where a promise of adventure was sold to many a young man, and only legend status ensued.
Finally, the inlaid map of Australia with arrows not going out, but coming home from conflicts where the Anzac Legend has been upheld.

Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) - Isolated Community Aid & Response Kits (ICARE)
FRRR supports remote, rural and regional communities across Australia to be more vibrant, resilient, empowered and sustainable. We work alongside communities to catalyse locally led solutions, helping them navigate disruption and unlock opportunity.
We bridge the systemic gap by connecting resources, build enduring local skills, knowledge and participation, and reshape how remote and rural Australia is seen, valued and supported.
Established in 2000 as a partnership between the Australian Government and the Sidney Myer Fund, to date we’ve awarded more than $213 million in grants to more than 16,000 projects.
It’s more than money. Our funding and capacity building support is delivered at the hyper-local level. We back people and organisations that are in and of their place because we know that targeted, well-informed investment stimulates ideas that lead to positive changes, both big and small – especially in smaller communities.
That means they:

Skill up and connect capital.

Attract and direct targeted investment / grants towards critical areas of disruption and resource communities to lead.

Facilitate and enable capacity and community-building infrastructure.

Seaforth RSL has been successful in gaining funding through FRRR in their 2026 round of applications for the locally designed ICARE Kits.
Our project to strengthen and enable our little pocket of the North Queensland coast will provide our residents with faster access to medical treatment and triage in times of natural disaster. We have gained funding to procure 3-4 advanced first aid trauma kits, pneumatic limb splints, oxygen kits and other vitals assessment necessities as well as skills training for a number of people in:
- Advanced First Aid
- Advanced Resuscitation
- CPR
- Provide pain management
Due to the nature of where we live, over the wet season we have a high potential of becoming isolated and cut off from State based services like Queensland Ambulance Service and SES. Our aim is to sectorise the district by way of road access during high tide and flooding events and have volunteers in each sector ICARE enabled.
Normal emergency protocols will remain in place, in every instance CALL '000'.
From there state-based call centres will triage your call in a priority listing. Then QAS will be notified, if unable to attend, QAS will notify local RFS brigades to assist. As the Seaforth RFS is our district Incident Control Centre (ICC), they will then activate the nearest ICARE volunteer to assist.
The purpose of the ICARE volunteer is to provide QAS with an updated set of vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, consciousness level, blood glucose level and other signs and symptoms) to either expedite or delay the casualty. They will also provide treatment if it's within the scope of their training and patient/ guardian consent is gained.
Keeping in mind during a localised natural disaster all emergency services (ambulance, hospitals and police) will be heavily stressed and not able to help everyone - so we need to be able to help ourselves first.
ICARE volunteers are only a stepping stone to professional medical care and do not replace or bypass normal policy, procedure or protocols in day to day life.
